Three men in a Boat competition

On 4 December, a beloved local landmark returns to the Saddlers Centre, rekindling memories for generations of Walsall families.

Once a cherished feature, the clock fell into disrepair and was placed in storage after repeated mechanical issues. In 2017, local residents called for its return—and thanks to town centre redevelopment funds, the clock has been fully restored to its former glory.

This historic timepiece pays tribute to Three Men in a Boat author Jerome K Jerome and boasts a unique automaton display every hour. Curious about what happens? You’ll have to visit the Saddlers Centre to find out—each hour reveals a different scene!

To celebrate, an official reopening will take place on 4 December with the Jerome K Jerome Society, a local school, and project supporters. Visitors are warmly invited to enjoy a special exhibition, live entertainment, and festive treats. Don’t miss this chance to see a piece of Walsall’s history come alive!

COMPETITION

To celebrate the installation and return of the Walsall classic Three Men in a Boat automaton, we are running a competition to win an exclusive Jellycat Terrier dog and a Costa voucher for afternoon tea!

To enter, join us at the unveiling event and pick up a postcard with the competition details on it, answer the question and post in the postbox located in the Event Square at the Saddlers Centre, by the clock.

• The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom except employees of Saddlers Shopping Centre and their close relatives.
• There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to be entered into the competition to win a present from entered wish list forms.
