Saddlers Centre joins 60+ breastfeeding-friendly venues as new feeding room opens in Walsall

Saddlers Centre joins Walsall Welcomes Breastfeeding Scheme with new feeding rooms

Families visiting Walsall town centre can now access two new dedicated breastfeeding rooms at the Saddlers Centre, providing a comfortable and welcoming space to feed babies while out and about.

The new facilities were officially opened on Wednesday 5 August and have been created through a partnership between local families, Walsall Family Hubs, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, Public Health and the Saddlers Centre.

Designed with feedback from parents and carers, the rooms offer a private and relaxing environment where families can breastfeed, express milk, or take a quiet break with their baby. No booking is required, and facilities include comfortable seating, privacy for infant feeding and access to nearby baby changing facilities.

The Saddlers Centre is the latest venue to join the Walsall Welcomes Breastfeeding Scheme, which was launched by Walsall Council in 2024 to help families feel more confident and supported when feeding their babies in public spaces.

More than 60 venues across the borough are now part of the scheme, including Family Hubs, leisure centres, libraries, cafés, restaurants, nurseries, community groups and other local organisations. Participating venues display a blue ‘Walsall Welcomes Breastfeeding’ sticker to show that breastfeeding is welcomed in their public areas, with some also providing dedicated spaces for families who prefer additional privacy.

Mel Glasby, Manager of Saddlers Shopping Centre, said:

“Following the refurbishment of the Saddlers Centre, we are pleased to have introduced this new facility as part of the Walsall Welcomes Breastfeeding Scheme.

“Alongside accessible parking and family-friendly facilities, this space helps us continue to support the local community and visitors to Walsall town centre.”

The new rooms are part of Walsall’s wider commitment to becoming a child-friendly borough by 2040, ensuring children and families have access to welcoming spaces and support when they need it.
