Work started on Saddlers Shopping Centre
We are thrilled to announce the transformation and modernisation project for the Saddlers Shopping Centre has commenced.
This project marks the first phase of Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council’s £40 million Connected Gateway Regeneration initiative, aimed at revitalising the Saddlers Shopping Centre and improving accessibility across bus and train transport links.
Improvements to Saddlers Shopping Centre, Phase One includes:
- Bradford Mall – A fresh new look and feel with porcelain tiles, updated wall cladding, enhanced lighting, and refurbished ceilings.
- New refurbished entrance to Bradford Mall.
- Improved access with new escalators and an internal staircase to connect the two floors.
Once works are complete for this part of the building, known as Bradford Mall, the council promises a lighter and brighter, modern mall experience. The second phase will then continue on Park Mall, which opens out on to the main high street and directly links in to the railway station.
The project, known as the Connected Gateway, aims to reinvent the town, creating a more welcoming environment and moving away from traditional retail-focused uses. It is partly funded through Walsall’s £1.5 billion investment programme and £11.4m from the Future High Street Funding, awarded in 2021.
In addition to the Saddlers Centre improvements, a clear walkway between Walsall Railway Station and the bus station will be created by removing select buildings outside the mall, scheduled for 2025. Furthermore, the former Marks & Spencer unit will be transformed into an adult learning facility in partnership with Walsall College.
We are committed to ensuring minimal disruption during the refurbishment process. Construction will take place outside business hours, with uninterrupted access to the train station. Businesses in the Saddlers Centre will continue to operate as normal.
Stay tuned for further updates, and thank you for your continued support as we enhance your shopping experience!
